The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) was originally conducted only on paper, but later a computer-delivered version was introduced. A new version, IELTS online test which can be taken online, has recently been released. Some people may be interested in this test, although it is narrow in scope and differs significantly from the standard computer test in important ways.

The only requirements for taking the IELTS online are a good internet connection and a quiet, well-lit environment. A portable or desktop computer equipped with the necessary hardware and software is required. The exam will require that you keep your camera and microphone active.

You should get the Inspera Exam Portal (IEP) and get it set up on your computer, and then do some pre-tests, before you take the actual IELTS exam online. After signing up, they will send you an email with all the information you need. Before you begin your IELTS test online, you’ll need to bring in an ID and take a photo of yourself for cross-checking purposes.

If you want to take the IELTS Online Speaking exam, you will first enter a waiting room and be greeted by a helpful examiner. Your total score across the three tests — listening, reading, and writing — will determine your final grade. Once you begin your exam, you won’t be able to access anything besides the exam site system IELTS, as your browser will be locked.
