What Is IELTS?

Firstly, let’s have a small reminder about the IELTS test online purpose and meaning. For those who wish to pursue educational or professional opportunities in a country where English is the primary language of communication, taking the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam is a necessary first step. The IELTS is a multi-part exam that assesses your reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in English.

The IELTS certificate is essential for everyone since it can open doors to better opportunities in life and work on a global scale. To know more don’t hesitate to read our article covering the IELTS mission, definition, peculiarities, and aim.

What Are The Peculiarities  Of IELTS Paper Based vs Computer Based Test?

While it is the goal of the online IELTS test to be as similar to the IELTS paper-based version as possible, it is, of course, difficult to do so. The IELTS speaking, writing, listening, and reading tests have all been adapted for use in an online test IELTS format. There will be a minor twist to the process, though.

The key distinction between IELTS computer vs paper is that you need extra precautions to avoid cheating when playing at home. For instance, having a webcam that stays on you for the entire exam is required. This is to ensure that you won’t get the answers from anybody else or have time to look them up while taking the test.

Furthermore, your screen will be closely monitored to ensure that you only have access to the assessment tool being used. You will be unable to access any outside websites or apps that could be used to cheat on the test.

Of course, you won’t be able to interact with an examiner face to face, thus this section of the exam will be conducted during IELTS online. You will be able to see and hear this individual using video chat software as they pose questions to you.

Summary

However, the paper-based vs computer-based IELTS examinations are quite similar to the ones you would take at a traditional IELTS test center. In other words, you won’t be handed a stack of paper reading assignments, but rather will instead access them while IELTS online tests and complete them on your computer. Rather than writing your essay by hand, you’ll be typing it. This has a number of advantages, including the fact that most people can type faster than they can write and that it’s far simpler to make changes. However, traditional paper exams are still favored by others.

If you want to study abroad but don’t think you’ll be able to make it to a conventional IELTS test center, you should consider taking the online IELTS test. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, this may help you earn the band score you need. While there are a few key distinctions that we’ve highlighted above, both tests can be considered to be of a similar level of difficulty.
